Welcome to Ireland’s Oldest Golf Club
Visitors are warmly welcomed at The Royal Belfast Golf Club, set on the shores of Belfast Lough at Craigavad, a short drive from Belfast city centre. This guide covers what to expect before, during and after your visit, so your day feels relaxed and considered from the moment you arrive.
Arriving at Craigavad
The approach travels along Station Road, passing beneath the bridge as Belfast Lough opens out ahead. Bearing right at the fork, you’ll pass the 15th and 18th holes with the Lough on your left before reaching Craigavad House, the heart of the Club’s hospitality. The Pro Shop sits just beyond — check in here with our Club Professional, Andrew Ferguson, and the team, who can help with final preparations and purchases before your round. Across the driveway is the golfers’ entrance to the clubhouse, where staff can direct you to the locker rooms and guest amenities.
Before Your Tee Time
Arrive at the first tee at least ten minutes before your starting time; earlier still if you’d like time to change, practice or settle in. Two putting greens and a short iron practice range are available to warm up before you start.
Dress Code and Etiquette
Royal Belfast is a traditional Club, and visitors are asked to observe its standards. Suitable attire includes golf shirts, collared shirts, roll-neck tops, tailored trousers, chinos, golf skirts, skorts and tailored golf shorts. Golf shoes should be worn on the course; clean, appropriate footwear indoors. Denim, collarless T-shirts, flip flops, wet or dirty clothing, and shorts in formal clubhouse areas are not permitted, and hats should be removed indoors. Mobile phones should be kept on silent, with calls taken in the Atrium at the players’ entrance; smoking, including e-cigarettes, isn’t permitted in the clubhouse.
Equipment, Caddies and the Pro Shop
Hire clubs, buggies and trolleys may be available on request, subject to availability — enquire in advance. Caddies can also be arranged, with requests made at least 48 hours before your visit. The Pro Shop stocks a range of golf apparel, equipment and Royal Belfast crested merchandise.
After Your Round
Craigavad House, built in 1852, offers a refined yet comfortable place to relax after golf — enjoy a drink in the bar or a meal in Bistro 1881, overlooking Belfast Lough.
